Players from Under 6 to and including Under 9 use size 3 balls. Players from Under 10 to and including Under 13 use size 4 balls. Players from Under 14 and above use size 5 balls. We recommend you purchase your balls through Intersport to gain a Club discount.
The junior season (U6 through to and including U16) kicks off late February and concludes with a Grand Final Day usually being the last Saturday before the September school holidays start. The senior season (U18 and above) usually kicks off around April through to mid October each year.
All junior games are played at Brolga Park at the Murray Sporting Complex on Murray Lyons Cres at Annandale. The first 3 or 4 games are on Sundays commencing late February and then are switched to Saturdays from the late March. This is because other sports (cricket, futsul, etc) are still being contested on Saturdays. Start times (kick off) will vary from 8.00am till about 4.30pm.
Senior games are played on a home and away basis with Greenwood Park Sporting Complex and the Brothers Leagues Club being our home grounds.
All training is at Rebels home grounds at Greenwood Park on the corner of Thuringowa and Greenwood Drives, Kirwan. Training times for juniors (U6 to U14) are usually 5-6pm on Tuesdays and/or Thursdays. This is in consultation with the coach and parents/players at the beginning of the season. The U16 teams and senior teams train from 6pm on Tuesday and Thursdays.
Due to 3 other clubs in Townsville having green shorts, we recommend that members purchase their shorts, socks and any other sporting equipment from Intersport so as to ensure you purchase the correct shade of green. SIntersport is also the only place in Townsville to stock the new Rebels FC socks (Compulsory for U12 players and above). Remember to show your Intersport Rewards card for your Club discount.
This year, all members to the Club will receive a Club Supporters Polo Shirt thanks to our major Club sponsor, Keir Constructions. This shirt is to be worn to and from games and other club functions. It is optional at training but we recommend that you keep it for official purposes.
The Club also provides the playing shirt for each junior player however parents are responsible for boots, socks, shin pads and shorts for all junior (U5 to U16) players. The Club will provide a water bottle to every playing member. In relation to Senior playing members (U18 and above) the Club provides a full playing kit including playing socks shorts and shirt.
All players regardless of age can wear boots with moulded tags or sandshoes. It is compulsory however, that all players wear shin pads and have a water bottle for both training and games.
What ever age your child turns in that calendar year, that is the correct age group for them. In the above example, the player would play in the Under 7 competition even though they won’t turn 7 until the season is over. Similarly if the child turns 7 on 1 January, they will play n the Under 7 competition.
Short answer is 4 turning 5. North Queensland Football have now introduced an Under 5 competition so as long as your child turns 5 this calendar year, they can register and play now in the Under 5 competition.
Yes most definitely although some age groups are filling up fast. We may not be able to put him into a team where they know someone but part of playing football is able making new friends. Please come down to the Clubhouse on a Tuesday or Thursday afternoon between 5 and 6 pm to register and be placed into a team. Your child will be able to play the following Saturday. All other conditions remain the same including cost, deposit, equipment, etc.
As a Club, we have a duty of care to our playing members and occasionally we have to cancel training due to the weather or condition of or work being done to the fields. Like us on Facebook at Rebels FC Junior Gunners or Rebels FC Senior Gunners for all the latest information and feeds.
Additionally, sometimes we leave it to the descreation of the team’s coach so it is important that you confirm with the team coach or manager as well.
Short answer is yes. We let the team coach and manager advise us when the team is to train. This is usually done in consultation with the parents of the players within that team however, there are instances when the coach is only available on a specific day. However, as we have multiple teams in most if not all age groups we can place your child into a team that trains specifically on a Tuesday or Thursday. Unfortunately no other days are available for training as we have to share Greenwood Park with other users.
Want to hire a hall? Unfortunately Greenwood Park Sporting Complex Assoc doesn’t hire the hall on a casual basis. We reommend and use the facilities at Brothers Leagues Club.
